VA Sierra Pacific Network (VISN 21)

About the VA Sierra Pacific Network (VISN 21)

The VA Sierra Pacific Network is one of 18 integrated health care networks in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). Also known as Veterans Integrated Service Network 21 (VISN 21), our Network comprises seven major health care systems based in Honolulu, HI; Palo Alto, CA; San Francisco, CA; Sacramento, CA; Fresno, CA; Reno, NV; and Las Vegas NV. Together these health care systems include 66 geographic sites of care to Veterans residing in northern and southern Nevada, central and northern California, Hawaii and the vast Pacific Region (including Guam, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Philippines).

VISN 21 is remarkable in several ways – one of which is its academic affiliations. All seven VISN 21 health care systems have highly successful clinical affiliations with prestigious universities in the areas of medicine, nursing and allied health professions. VISN 21 hosts the largest number of Centers of Excellence in VHA, receives the most research funding in VHA, and has expansive and collaborative relationships with its Department of Defense partners. VISN 21 is on par nationally with inpatient and outpatient satisfaction measures, and often exceeds the VHA national average. VISN 21 has ranked number 4 among all VISNs for best places to work based on the most recent All Employee Survey.

VISN 21 is committed to ensuring that Veterans have full access to the highest quality of care, and that patients and staff alike have high levels of satisfaction. Currently we face one of the most challenging times in VA and must restore trust and faith in VA health care services. We are focusing on providing Veterans timely access to quality care and include virtual modalities, rural health outreach, non-VA care contracts, and collaborations with community and federal partners. Our efforts align with the recently passed Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act (VACAA) of 2014.
